Aloe vera amino acids
What is an Amino Acid?
If I had to give a simple definition of amino acids, I would first say that they are molecules that form the proteins essential to our body. I would also say that they participate in numerous mechanisms:
- They provide energy
- They catalyze many chemical reactions
- They regulate chemical balance
- They are involved in tissue regeneration
This is how the enzymes that come into action during digestion break down the proteins that will be used to build most of our body (eyes, hair, muscles).
Why are the Amino Acids in Aloe special?
There are 2 groups of Amino Acids:
- Essential: there are 8, these are the ones the body CANNOT produce, so we must ingest them through a good diet.
- Non-essential: there are 14, and the body is capable of synthesizing them.
In total, there are 22 amino acids that the body needs to function normally. Here is where Aloe gets interesting: it contains 18 of the 22, and especially, it has 7 of the 8 essential ones (the most important in nutrition). Its amino acid composition is one of the strengths of Aloe Vera as a plant that helps your body’s well-being and proper functioning, but Aloe has more than 200 active components that I will introduce you to in this blog.
